Whale Watching Frequently Asked Questions

"When is the best time to view the whales?"

Well that depends on which whale species. The best time of year to view Orca Whales is in the May through September. If you're looking for Humpback whales then we suggest September through January. The Gray whale is a bit more fussy and will visit on occasion through out the year. Everyone's favorite - The Killer Whale aka. Orca is viewable in the Winter, because the seals are most abundant.

"How often do you see whales?"

That depends on the experience of the company. (wink wink) But in general we hear most companies report 80% of the time they see whales.

"Is it considered dangerous to be close to the whales?"

Yes, it's dangerous and disruptive to be too close to the whales. That is why we make it a point to let you know which whale watching operators are members of the Whale Watchers Operators Associations
